negative space designs - final major project

Negative voids captured in the photography studio through shadowed patterns on the wall.

Layered compositions of my negative space designs.

These designs are a combination of print, acetate and laser cut tracing paper individually placed on top of one another, revealing a new shape through every aperture that you look through.

negative space drawings - final major project

The concept for my final major project was the idea of reveal and what can be seen through negative space, voids, apertures and holes.

My drawings investigated what these apertures revealed as well as the structures that formed the positive space. This varied research in size, shape, pattern and composition was then developed into experimentation within textile processes and relevant materials.

- inspired by the Genetics project

genetics project

My theme for the Genetics project was 'Clone'. For this, I was given a limited amount of materials to use (sellotape, magazines and buttons) which I then had to transform into a piece of work reflecting the theme.

I chose to use a sheet from the magazine which I then photocopied a number of times - as my main object was buttons, I chose to focus on that specific form so I laminated the magazine sheet using the sellotape which was then cut into a button shape. I wanted to manipulate the paper in some way so I kept the on-going theme of circular forms and used a hole punch to pierce into the button.
